New Piece

Inspired by Tattoo Artist Piotrek

This is the only the first step of the process of Aluminum Plate Lithography

The next step is etching which includes washing it with chemicals such as
Talc (Baby Powder)
Gum Arabic
Light Tapan
Medium Tapan
Heavy Tapan
Acetone
Asphalt
Turpentine

The Etching process is what makes this project drawn out.
it actually takes longer than drawing the actual image.
also the use of the chemicals washes away the image.
Which is why I took a picture of it in case I messed up on this whole process and feel like I drew the image for nothing.

Went from 4 Woodblocks....

To..... (Part 1)

Step 1. Woodblock drawing
Transfer the image of the previous post on to the woodblock with pencil in case of any errors, they can be easily corrected...

This is called my "Key Block"
This block will be repeatedly carved into to create different images to transfer to different blocks ultimately to make one print of an image in color.

Step 2. Trace your drawing with a black Sharpie marker
Then carve out the area that you want to be white...

Step 3. Once you've done that, ink your block with black ink and print your block on a sheet of newsprint.
Your sheet of newsprint should now be completely black minus the white areas you've carved out.
Like this...

Being that I printed the image onto the newsprint with the woodblock, the image on the newsprint is now backwards.
And being that I carved out a small amount of white areas on my woodblock, you can still see the image come together on the newsprint.

Step 4. Now, while my newsprint is still wet of the black ink, you are to transfer it onto a new woodblock,
like so...

Step 5. Now with your image onto your new block (notice that the image is turned back to its' original side) carve out the white areas in this block.
Once completed, you are done with this block until its time to make your final print.

Step 6. Go back to your Key Block and trace over your lines again with a silver marker...

Now that step 6 is completed, you are now to carve out the areas that you want to be of the lightest color...

I know you're probably thinking "why go through all this just for a single print?"

Well, once you've complete all of your block to make your final print, you can reproduce it over & over again technically forever in any colorway you want. If it is successful, a lot of money could be made from it...

Make sense now?

Part 2 coming soon, but for now...

Peace up!
